I heart alaska. It's beautiful up here. It's been around 33 to 40 degrees and we've had snow fluries the last two days, but as I'm typing this the sun is bursting thru reflecting off the ice in the rive. It's rustic and about what you expect as far as civilized life goes in a town of 500 people, but the land is - starkly beautiful.  It's so dramatic in it's vastness.  The trees are small, but the mountains are incredible - at least they were in anchorage.  Alaska knows how to do mountains.  Out here, it's flat.  Tundra.  Sky doesn't end and the tallest building is 3 stories - our messhall/bunk house.  Out here, i can feel that the earth is round.

I like it up here.  It feels good.  Where I am, what I'm doing and what I'm not doing.

The people, mostly men, are kind if not a bit crazy, but what do you expect. I suppose I'm pretty much the same.

Here's the not so great news, I have internet access, but it's limited.  Xanga, Livejournal and Myspace are blocked - along with netflix (go figure).  So...alas, Xanga may be a no go.  I can't read any of your comments, but I can read my email subscriptions.  TJ has posted this for me.  So, from now on, I'll try to send out emails regularly.  Email me at alice.hodge@gmail.com so I make sure I have the email address that you use regularly.

Love you all and I send my best.

Roughly 5 hours til I leave for the airport.

I'm going on about 4 hours sleep followed by a day of moving and the crankiness is setting in.  Luckily, everyone has gone to bed and I can tie up loose ends in peace and quiet.
